Life on a 750-Acre Working Farm in the Heart of the Isle of Wight

Rooted in the Land, Run by Family, Shared with You

Cheverton Farm is our home as well as our livelihood. Andrew and I moved here in 1986 with his parents, and today we farm these 750 acres alongside our eldest son, Jack. What began as a family farm in a quiet valley near Shorwell has grown into a diverse Isle of Wight farming business — but it remains, at heart, a place shaped by people who care deeply about the land.

Our farm stretches across steep valleys, chalky downland and pockets of natural woodland in the south of the Isle of Wight countryside.

Cattle graze the hillsides, crops grow in the arable fields, and wildlife thrives in the hedgerows. We’re incredibly proud of the biodiversity here — from rare wildflowers and red squirrels to buzzards and even the white-tailed sea eagle, occasionally spotted circling overhead.

Alongside livestock and arable farming, Andrew and Jack run specialist farming services, helping other farmers improve soil health and productivity through responsible land management. Sustainability matters to us — not as a trend, but as a long-term responsibility to the generations who will farm this land after us.

When we opened our Isle of Wight farm stay cottages, it wasn’t about creating a separate business — it was about sharing this place. Guests aren’t staying beside a farm; they’re staying on one. You’ll hear the early morning sounds, see tractors at work, and perhaps bump into us in muddy boots. And that’s exactly how we like it.

Farming with Care for the Land

We’re actively working to farm responsibly and look after this valley for the long term — improving soil health, protecting hedgerows and keeping space for wildlife to thrive alongside food production.

Sustainability isn’t a slogan for us; it’s simply good farming, done with the next generation in mind.

Why Choose a Farm Stay?

An Isle of Wight farm stay gives you something a hotel can’t — space, fresh air, and a real sense of place.

You’ll have your own cottage to spread out in, countryside on the doorstep, and the little everyday moments that make holidays feel special: birdsong in the morning, starlit nights, and children utterly delighted by farm life.

Our Story at Cheverton Farm

Cheverton is a family-run farm, shaped over decades by hard work and a love of this corner of the Isle of Wight.

Andrew and I moved here with his parents in 1986, and today we farm the land with our eldest son, Jack.

We built our home on the farm in 2013 — a dream come true — and we’ve loved welcoming guests to stay here ever since.

If you come to stay with us, you’re not just booking a cottage — you’re stepping into a working farm, cared for by the same family day in, day out.
